DeborahSuzanne - Contemporary Artist, Photographer and Ethical Taxidermist.

I graduated from Colchester School of Art at Colchester Institute in 2019 and received a First-Class BA (HONS) Degree in Fine Art. I am now continuing to study for my master’s in fine art at Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge.
I have experimented with appropriated objects, photography, sculpture, ink drawings, assemblage, video, and performance as well as discovering a love of rogue taxidermy.
My personal practice continues with video and photography work in a Fine Art context, exploring memory and human connections. I am inspired by Renaissance and Baroque art and the techniques of the time and have an interest in how they can be used in contemporary art of today, specifically transferred onto film.
I consider myself a scavenger, storyteller and archivist and I am fascinated by the number three, which I incorporate into my work, sometimes subtly, sometimes obviously.
I use narratives to traverse the realms of rituals, myths, and religions, in an increasingly secular society, as well as supporting the idea of death-positivity. My research is focused on practice-based methodologies as I question what it means to be human.
All animal parts used in my sculptures and photography are by-products obtained from roadkill, accidental or natural deaths and all feathers are sourced in accordance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981.
